In France, as a public-interest foundation (fondation reconnue d’utilité publique), the HEC Foundation is authorized to receive bequests, lifetime gifts, and life insurance proceeds.
French inheritance law governs the transfer of assets and includes specific legal and tax provisions. In particular, it reserves a portion of an estate for protected heirs.
Where applicable, only the disposable portion (quotité disponible) of your estate may be allocated according to your wishes.

BEQUESTS
Making a bequest to the HEC Foundation means specifying in your will that you wish to leave all or part of your estate to the Foundation upon your death.
Subject to the rights of protected heirs under applicable law, you may choose the extent of your generous commitment.
- A UNIVERSAL BEQUEST transfers your entire estate.
- A GENERAL BEQUEST transfers a portion of your estate, for example half of your assets, or a share of a particular category of assets.
- A SPECIFIC BEQUEST transfers a clearly identified asset, such as an apartment, a work of art, or a specified sum of money.
LIFE INSURANCE
You may designate the HEC Foundation as the beneficiary of all or part of your life insurance policy.
LIFETIME GIFTS
A lifetime gift enables you to transfer an asset from your estate to the HEC Foundation during your lifetime in a secure and legally recognized manner. This may include real estate, jewelry, works of art, securities portfolios, and other valuable assets.
Such a gift must be executed by notarial deed.
Several options are available, including:
- AN OUTRIGHT GIFT (FULL OWNERSHIP)
- A TEMPORARY GIFT OF USUFRUCT
- A GIFT OF BARE OWNERSHIP
